Trio Nuovo was founded in 1978 by Michiko Kataoka, mandolin and Shigeyuki Tsuzuki, guitar and arrangement.
They have a wide range of concert repertoire from baroque to contemporary music, and are engaged in performing in the annual recitals and salon concerts, where they sometimes play with other instrument such as flute, exploring new sounds with the arrangement to enhance the character of each instrument.

<<M. Kataoka>>
Michiko Kataoka began to study mandolin with Kinuko Hiruma when she was in elementary school, and in 1966 started her career as a professional mandolin soloist. In 1968, she won the first prize at the 1st Solo Mandolin Competition in Japan. While she has performed in the recitals as a soloist, she has made frequent appearances on TV/radio programs, variety of chamber music concerts and operas. She has been also engaged in teaching mandolin at her own institute.

<<S. Tsuzuki>>
Shigeyuki Tsuzuki started to study guitar and music theory on his own while he was in Kobe University of Commerce, and has been performing in various concerts and offering arrangements. He presently teaches guitar at Ikebukuro Academy of Music where he serves as the principal.

<<M. Iwase>>
Mikiko Iwase, mandola, picked up a mandolin when she was a junior high school student and afterwards took mandolin lessons from Michiko Kataoka. She is the third prize winner of the Solo Mandolin Competition in Japan held in 1972 and joined Trio Nuovo in 1984. Besides playing in the trio and her activities as a soloist, she teaches mandolin at her own school.
